The Central Region of Malawi, particularly the districts of Nkhatakota and Ntchisi, is an emerging coffee-growing area in Malawi’s mid-altitude highlands. Though smaller in production compared to the southern highlands, this region is gaining recognition for high-quality Arabica coffee cultivated mainly by smallholder farmers.
Nkhatakota and Ntchisi sit at elevations of 900–1,400 meters, with fertile soils and moderate, well-distributed rainfall. These conditions allow Arabica cherries to mature slowly, developing sugars that contribute to balanced, nuanced cups.
